Your soundscape is really professional! It is amazing! I don’t what your assigned theme is, but I definitely will guess it is something makes people feel creepy or some kind of scary emotion. The heavy and shaky sound in the beginning perfectly set up a tone for your soundscape. I feel like you have few layers of soundtracks in the beginning. I can’t tell what kind of sound you used, but the way you manipulated the volume and proximity of each sound gave me a deep feeling in my visualization, which give me a sense of distance and movement as well. It sure goes well with the fog in your picture. In the middle of your soundscape, you have bell in it. It is genius to add bell in it at that time, because I didn’t expect a bell sound in it since the bell sound is different, not similar with, the sounds you used at the first part of the soundscape. The bell sound also strengthens your targeted emotion you want the listeners feel. You have great continuation. I can’t tell the name of that kind of sound, but you repeated used in your soundscape. I want to say you have a great control at the proximity of when repeat that sound and when make that sound fades out. An excellent soundscape
From the very beginning of Morgan’s soundscape the audience can tell that there is an airy, somewhat nervous or anxious emotion to it. I’m not sure what emotion it is trying to show but that is the general feel I have for the soundscape. The sound is the most noticeably altered sense in this piece, with the instrumentals fading in an out and being overlapped. The sounds of the church bells and the dripping water add a great amount of depth to the piece while the synth coming in and then fading back out add the uneasy feeling to the piece. There is a smooth continuation of sounds throughout the soundscape, never any sudden changes in sound. At a few points in the project you can tell that the pitch and timbre have been altered to emphasize one sound over another. The slow mixing of sounds in this soundscape makes the audience experience a more smooth transition from beginning, where mostly airy music plays, to the middle, where a slightly harsher sound begins with the introduction of the synthesizer and the church bells, to the end where all noises are heightened and slowly end one instrument at a time.
This soundscape was wonderful. I listened to it first without the image. Overall, I got a sense of anxiety, especially in the beginning, and although most of the sounds that were playing in the beginning continued on throughout the soundscape, I didn't feel so anxious as it went on, especially when the church bells chimed in. However, as it concluded, I was back to feeling nervous again! Each sound effect that was added in contributed nicely, although they felt randomized. As I mentioned, the echoing of the church bells "off in the distance" gave the audience a good sense of distance and size of the bells. It provided a sense of comfort to an otherwise uncertain feeling. Each sound effect transitioned rather smoothly from one to the next, giving a very good sense of movement and direction. The change in tempo from beginning to middle to end also added to uncertainty. I am fascinated by the way you manipulated the beginning and end to sound the same, but provided the audience with some release in the middle to the tension you had building in the beginning. It's almost as if you framed the lighter feeling and surrounded it with two darker feelings. A weird concept, but I enjoyed it immensely.
This soundscape from the very beginning creates a representation of space through the sounds it creates. From the different sounds coming from the meadow, and the creaking of the song the listener can immediately feel in a deep hole. There is also quite a bit of echo and directionality used to create this song. There is a distance created with some of the sounds seeming far away and some of the sounds seeming closer as though they are closer. By adding these different elements the creator of this sound was able to create a deep space that goes beyond the picture that was given.
There is an illusion created with the sounds used. Even though almost none of the sounds used are ever seen the listener can imagine it. The craziest sound is the ringing of a clock but even that can be imagined because the song gives it a far away sound that makes it seem like it may be around the corner of the wall in the picture. By adding the different sounds to this song the listener is able to look at the picture and imagine more to what is in the background and more to what is going on beneath the surface of the picture.
